Automatic Weather Station (AWS)

Two AWS are deployed in Chacaltaya: one a the observatory (5240masl + 20m), the other in the nortwestern ridge of the mountain (5380masl + 10m)

At the observatorya ambient air temperature, relative humidity, wind direction and wind speed are measured at 1-minute resolution since september 2016. Measurements are complemented with separate retrievals of barometric pressure (available since 2011).

In the northwestern ridge of Chacaltaya the other AWS is operated in joint collaboration between the bolivian SENAMHI, IRD and the GAW station. It complements the meteorological network of the site. In april 2016 a snow-depth sensor was added to this AWS.
